ISI (Indian Standards Institute) is the certificate scheme under the Bureau of Indian Standards which is a government body that ensures product quality and standard complies with the BIS safety and standards. Basic Requirements for Obtaining BIS ISI Certification

• Ensure that all testing and production infrastructure is located on the factory sites as per SIT and ISS norms 
• A BIS certificate is a mandatory license for the manufacturer of the finished products. Distributors/Retailers have not complied with BIS regulations.
• The manufacturer has to file a separate application form for each product, each location or each address in case of multiple factories
• You must do the product testing from an authorised lab with fully equipped testing equipment and the lab should verify the quality control in accordance with ISS norms. 
• All the testing processes should be conducted in the same factory, such as receiving raw materials, production process to final packing. If you are outsourcing any of the processes, a customs clearance from the BIS is needed.
